President Ronald Reagan is shot and wounded in an assassination attempt by John Hinckley Jr. while leaving the Washington Hilton Hotel on March 30, 1981. Presidential Press secretary James Brady, Secret Service agent Timothy J. McCarthy, and police officer Thomas K. Delahanty were also wounded in the attack.
